How to Use Full Moon Energy to Your Advantage
We’re going to dig into the concept of using the full moon energy to embrace our inner femininity in order to create balance and live in communion with energies all around and within us. There’s a lot of talk about gender roles and the masculine vs feminine characteristics and traits. And those things are all important. But... many of us want to move beyond that. We see these complementary energies in nature and feel that it is important that they are also in balance in our bodies as they have a deep source in our consciousness.
Do you notice a shift in energy on a full moon? What gets illuminated in your life? Have you been able to harness its power? If you’re used to being assertive and strong, then taking time to strategically harmonize the divine feminine energy in your body may be just what you need to bring yourself peace and healing. As feminine energy is lunar, cooling, and receptive, and masculine energy is solar, warming, and active, the energy of the moon’s celestial body can be used to heal the divine feminine within and restore wholeness to life. From journaling, charging water, full moon bath rituals, recharging crystals, and more, use these tips to tap into the energy of the moon and synchronize your vibration to gently activate your inner divine feminine and support yourself on a social, psychological, and spiritual level.
What are the moon phases?
Every month the moon goes through eight phases beginning with the new moon, the waxing crescent, first quarter, waxing gibbous, full moon, the waning gibbous, the third quarter, then the waning crescent. Each phase has different energy so we’re going to dig into the concept of using that energy to our advantage. This is the first post in the series.
where to begin
We are our own experts in our own ways of living. Ask yourself the following questions as you prepare to embrace the lunar energy.
Do you ever feel like there’s not enough space in your life for joy and assertiveness?
Do you put tons of pressure on yourself to get things done, be strong, or be courageous?
Do you constantly find yourself feeling stuck and unable to move forward?
Do you avoid connecting with women, or feel threatened by them even though you want to be part of a sisterhood?
Do you want to grow? Evolve? Build? But know that you are resisting it?
Do you recognize your own need for nurturing, gentleness, and loving-kindness?
Do you feel that your masculine and feminine energies are in balance?
Do you feel like some women have found the secret of life, and you’re just the unlucky one?
Did you relate to any or even all of those? Don’t worry, I’ve been there, we all have. Here’s the thing: there are both masculine and feminine energies that motivate and support us. But most of us choose to exhibit masculine qualities of assertiveness, leadership, and strength, so much so that we’ve suppressed our need for nurturing, gentleness, and loving-kindness.
The key is to recognize this imbalance in our lives, find out why we’re thinking and feeling that way, and digging down to uncover the power of our inner divine feminine.
The thing about the concept of femininity is that you don’t just flip a switch and turn it on or off, it’s a part of life’s subtle energies that have to be embraced and activated and balanced with the energy of the masculine. Thinking that the power of the feminine is associated with weakness is incorrect. It creates an imbalance. It creates separation. It creates isolation. At the same time, it’s really easy to get sucked into that mindset. Life shows us constantly that we have to take action, be independent, aggressive, competitive, and suppress our feelings.
JOURNAL
So, what can you do to create more balance in life? Journal. A polarized mindset about masculine and feminine not only cripples your ability to succeed, but it also cripples your ability to rest, recharge, to rejuvenate, which can impact everything from your health to your self-worth to your relationships.
When you set your intentions at the new moon and release what no longer serves you by journaling on a full moon, you tap into the cycles of release, surrender, and renewal. I get it, journaling is good for doing this at any time but when you combine it with the delicate moon energy cycles you can add power to your intentions and have the effect compounded.
Here’s what you do: write down everything you are ready to let go of that no longer serves you. Start with the statement, I am ready to release… then fill in the blank. Take your time. Don’t overthink it. Let it flow.
When you are done with your list, take your letter and transform the energy by burning it, ripping it up and placing the pieces in a river, or lighting a candle to signify the intention and release.
Releasing can be hard as you hold onto old beliefs and desires but just take a deep breath and set your intention to let it go.
CHARGE WATER
Maybe now you’ve started to acknowledge that you need to activate more feminine energy in your life. How can you do that? When it comes to energy, I like to lean on some of the tricks I’ve learned over the years as the most non-expert in lunar cycles.
I remember the first time I heard about charging water by the light of the moon. I had only ever charged crystals but was willing to give it a try. I was aware that the moon affects the ocean’s tides, so it made sense that there was already an energetic connection between the moon and the water element. And I’d heard about research conducted by Masuro Emoto that showed that water molecules can change depending upon environment and intention. When charging water by the moon, it is thought that its molecules are imprinted with the energy of the moon even though there is no scientific evidence to support it. (allure)
According to mindbodygreen, this is called moon water. It is simply water that has had time to sit under the light of the full moon and soak up some of its power. It’s really nothing new as the practice has origins in witchcraft and has been around for centuries.
Here’s how to do it: get a glass container (I like using glass rather than plastic or metal), fill it with drinking water and place it somewhere outside so it can absorb the energy. Now, you may be wondering what to do with it. You can use it to water plants, drink it, or use it to cleanse your space and crystals. By using the moon-charged water you are absorbing the lunar feminine energy, cleansing your sacral chakra, and creating balance in your body.
CHARGE CRYSTALS
Crystals help us reconnect to the earth. I love crystals and sleep with them every night! They can pick up and carry energy and need to be cleaned when they get congested. How do you know when this is? You can feel it.
An easy way to cleanse your crystals is to use the subtle, feminine, cooling aspects of the full moon. Now, there are some crystals that naturally carry the feminine qualities of loving and kindness, and compassion such as Rose Quartz and Amythest so they are good ones to choose for charging under a full moon but you can charge any crystal this way.
Basically, there are two ways to it. First, you can place your crystal on a windowsill or put it outside on the ground to absorb the energy. Or place the crystal in a glass container full of drinking water and allow it to be cleansed and recharged using the moon water technique above. Don’t worry if your crystals don’t get direct moonlight, they will absorb the energy anyway.
RELEASE
What are you ready to let go of in your womb space? Where do you need more support in your life? Connecting with lunar energy can help you release what is holding you back and surrender to new opportunities. The moon’s energy is subtle and feminine as opposed to the penetrating solar energy related to the masculine. It is connected to the water element just like the sacral chakra so when the sacral chakra is blocked one can use the energy of the moon to regain flow.
To release what no longer serves you on a full moon night allows you to align with the natural lunar cycle as it changes from all dark to all light to all dark again. When you’re feeling stuck, unable to feel, and lack the ability to take in pleasure, set your intention to release what is holding you back when the moon is at its fullest and is all light. Things that no longer serve us are brought out of the darkness.
To take advantage of this energy ask yourself the following questions. Where do you need more support in your life? Are you nurturing your inner feminine? Where do you feel stuck? Are you lacking desire? Then, let it go and surrender.
When we carry tension in the abdominal area it affects the flow of our more delicate qualities and causes them to be suppressed or denied. Because masculine power is all around us, when our feminine power is suppressed, it feels like it goes into hiding.
IMMERSE YOURSELF IN WATER
The truth is, immersing yourself in water normally has the power to balance the sacral chakra as it is the chakra related to the water element. So, when you do a full moon bath ritual on the night of a full moon, you get the added benefit of the feminine lunar energy and its effect on water. It can help you open space for receiving, flowing, and creativity. According to Sacred Feminine Reawakening, the moon influences the oceans to create tides in the same way she influences our bodies, affecting our emotions, moods, and a woman’s menstrual cycle.
Recognizing the need for loving-kindness that we all have within us is so important. That’s why tapping into the energy of the moon for power and healing of the divine feminine is needed. By journaling, charging water in the moonlight, recharging crystals, releasing what no longer serves you, and immersing your body in the water you can use rituals to synchronize your vibration and gently activate your inner divine feminine while supporting yourself on a social, psychological, and spiritual level.
