The Fish Chakra Totem Can Balance Subtle Energies: Here's How
Whether you need to release stuck emotions to move forward, or totally shift gears and do something new, this post is all about making it easier for you by embracing the energy of the sacral chakra and its animal totem, the fish.
And rather than seeing this as a lot of work… I hope you leave feeling like you can transition from the solidity of the root chakra and its elephant chakra totem into this new territory of pleasure, creativity, and movement that dwells in the Svadhisthana chakra.
Let’s talk about how embodying the energy of the fish can open the sacral chakra. You’ll learn the symbolic meaning of the fish, how embodying the energy aligns with the consciousness of the second chakra, and why you should use the fish chakra totem to support the balance of nurturing the subtle feminine energies with the masculine assertiveness in your life.
I mentioned before that all chakra animal totems can be referred to as spirit animals, power animals, spirit guides, spiritual totems, animal helpers, or totem animals. And, that there is basically no difference in the names when it comes to aligning them with the chakra energy points. I have combined all the terms and called them the chakra animal totems because of the similarities in the traits exhibited by certain animals and how they align with the consciousness of specific chakras.
In my post about the elephant totem, I talked about the elephant's symbolic meaning, now, we are going to transcend from the solidity of the earth element to the fluidity of the water element and the fish totem.
WHAT DOES THE FISH SYMBOLIZE?
All the symbolic chakra animals have innate abilities, but the fish’s potential power to influence the chakras is linked to fluidity. Fish are the symbols of fertility in many cultures and represent new life, happiness, and pleasure. When there is movement there is an ability to adapt to change and move forward with vitality.
HOW THE FISH AND SACRAL CHAKRA CONSCIOUSNESS ARE SIMILAR
WATER
Water is the element associated with the sacral chakra and fish need water to live in. As water stands for the realm of emotion, the fish is the spirit animal that can swim through it creating movement. EMOTIONS
The sacral chakra or Svadhisthana chakra is the dwelling place of self. It is where the feelings we have about ourselves live. The deepest part of the oceans represents our subconscious. (myspiritanimal.com)
EMPATHY
Can you walk into a room and immediately feel what is present? The sacral chakra is related to empathizing or sensing other emotions as if they were your own. When the sacral chakra is open, one can sense other people’s emotions and interpret how they may be feeling. The perceived link between fish and empathy may be due to the fish’s extrasensory capabilities that allow them to detect subtle wave movements in their environment. (spiritanimal.com)
GIVING AND RECEIVING
Life is all about balance so when the sacral chakra is clear you will find you have a wonderful balance of both giving and receiving. Notice when and how you allow yourself to receive. Do you take in compliments others give you and say thank you? Are you grateful when someone holds the door open for you? If not, start letting yourself receive these small things in small ways throughout your day without any guilt, and notice how this keeps you aligned with the flow of life.
The ability to give and receive is mimicked in the Angelfish who serve a vital purpose in the ocean; they eat parasites and dead tissues off other Fish’s scales, keeping them healthier. (whatismyspiritanimal.com)
FLOW
Flow affects nearly all areas of life. It relates to the sacral chakra regarding the emotional flow and flow of fluids in the physical body. This contrasts with the solidity of the earth element observed with the root chakra. As one rises out of the solidity of the earth element, the vibration increases, and the chakras spin at a higher frequency that begins to create movement in the system. If there is no energy flow in the sacral chakra due to congestion or damage, illness can result.
The fish spirit animal is also synonymous with flow, flexibility, and movement. Their spines are built in a way that allows for easy back and forth motion, many fish have specialized organs that can undergo significant body changes when needed, and some can even change colors. An easy way to enhance flow in your life is to add a water fountain to your desk.
FERTILITY
The sacral chakra is in the abdominal area and energetically feeds the reproductive organs, therefore is associated with fertility. Fish are fertile in that they can produce up to one thousand eggs a season and they also symbolize fertility in many cultures. Chinese and Buddhist beliefs indicate that a pair of golden fish represent happiness, pleasure, and fertility. Native American symbolism shows the fish, especially the salmon as a symbol of fertility. And in ancient African culture, the fish represents fertility, creativity, and a new phase of life. FEMININITY
In five ways to awaken your feminine energy, I talked about how femininity is related to the sacral chakra and the water element. Fish are often seen as more feminine than masculine due to their fluidity of movement. Balance the subtle feminine and masculine energies within yourself by adding a water feature such as an aquarium to your home or office.
ADAPTABILITY
Moving from the solidity of the earth element in the root chakra to the fluidity and movement of the water element in the sacral chakra, one must adapt to change. Fish are adaptable as well as they can change colors depending on camouflage needs, environmental conditions, and time of the year. (spca.bc.ca). Some can also adapt their body temperature and living conditions.
RECEPTIVITY
Water has a receptive principle in that it takes the form of whatever it encounters. So does the consciousness of the sacral chakra in that the energy has to be allowed to flow in without impediments and the host has to be open to allow that energy to transform and move wherever it is needed in the body.
Fish are receptive as well as they have exceptional sensory capabilities and can pick up low-frequency sound waves that vibrate through the water. Salmon are known as one of nature’s best navigators due to their sensory capabilities. They return to the same river, and sometimes even the same riverbed, in which they were born to spawn. They are guided by magnetic fields and their keen senses. It’s believed the salmon, who can smell chemicals down to one part per million, can detect pheromones that are unique to their home stream. PLEASURE
The consciousness of one of the smaller vortexes in the sacral chakra is linked to feelings of pleasure and it has been shown that fish are able to seek out pleasurable experiences and avoid painful ones.
