Things Your Mom Can Teach You About Self-Care

My mom has been gone for quite a while now but, she still inspires me every day, in more ways than I can imagine. Just recently I was doing a workshop and was reminded about things my mom taught me about self-care. As I was sharing stories with my audience, I realized how powerful my mom’s words still are to me and thought I would capture some highlights to share hoping they remind you of things your mother taught you that you may have forgotten.

TIPS FOR GREAT SELF-CARE

It's Important To Allow Yourself To Just Be Who You Are

It’s amazing how differently you see yourself and how others see you. When you are able to accept who you are, just as you are, you can take an essential step to align with your true purpose in life. By dropping your guard it is easier for others to accept you and, for you to accept yourself.

Always Take Pleasure In The Small Things In Life

In today's busy world it’s easy to rush around frantically and forget to take pleasure in the small things in life such as a beautiful sunset, the warmth of the sun upon your face, and love from your favorite pet. In order to fully engage in your life and find pleasure in the mundane, first, you have to stop and pay attention to what is currently around you. By taking time for yourself, you make a conscious choice to put yourself first.

It’s important to take time to unwind at the end of each day.

Take Your Time - Slow Down!

I can't even count the number of times my mom told me to slow down!  No kidding! I really didn't understand what she was talking about at the time as I was busy working, raising kids, and trying to keep up with everyday life. But, now I understand. Life can race past you quicker than you think,  especially with technology these days. Take vacations with your family, find a hobby you love or simply enjoy some time in reflection and solitude.

And, My Mom's Finest Words of Wisdom ... Good IS Good Enough!

I still struggle with believing this one as I always strive for perfection.  But, I have to admit that the older I get (and wiser), the more I realize that always trying my hardest and doing my best - is ultimately good enough!

My mom has inspired me more than I will ever know ... and, in ways that I will probably never fully understand. But I, like many, always try my best and hope that yes, it is good enough! Every day I remind myself of her wise words to ensure I take care of myself and fully engage in my life. I have a lot to be thankful for.

I’m sure your mom taught you how to practice good self-care so as you become more self-aware, bring her wise words into your life and know that the better you take care of yourself - the better you will feel and the more empowered you will become.
