Pressed Flower Magnets
One of the biggest hang-ups I hear from people wanting to update their home décor is how in the world can they create something that’s beautiful and practical and looks good! Not too long ago, I shared how to press flowers and leaves in a book in 5 easy steps. Read it here if you missed it because today I’m taking you on the next step: how to use those dried flowers to make refrigerator magnets!
So, you’re not sure what to do with dried flowers from your wedding? Looking for a great gift or a way to display your special notes and announcements? Feel like doing a craft? Maybe you want to capture the essence of summer all year long or just love the natural look of flowers.
Whatever your reason, I’m glad you’re here!
We’ve all seen pressed dried flowers framed, and used to decorate bookmarks, candles, and note cards, but what about using dried flowers in a new way?
In this post, I’m going to show you an idea for a fridge magnet using inexpensive supplies you can purchase at your local craft store. I’ll also give you a list of what you need and walk you through the easy steps so you can create your own dried flower magnets.
what you need to create a dried flower magnet
For the fridge magnets, you’ll need:
Wood chips
Glue
Dried flowers
Tweezers
Paintbrush
Magnets
Pressing flowers in books can be as simple as picking your favorites, placing them in a book, and letting them dry. If you don’t have pressed dried flowers to make the magnets, check out this post to learn how to make your own.
Some ideas for small flowers that can be used for dried flower magnets are:
-violets
-pansies
-daisies
Once your flowers are dry, gather supplies and start by applying the glue to a woodchip. (it’s easier to only do one at a time)
Use pliers or tweezers to gently pick up the flower and place it on the wooden chip topped with glue.
Even though it may be tempting to add the Modge Podge right away, it’s best if you let it dry so the flower doesn’t move around or get damaged as you’re brushing it.
When dry, brush on 1-2 layers of Modge Podge until it’s totally covered and sealed.
This drying step will take longer than the first one so you probably will want to leave it dry overnight before applying the magnet.
When the woodchip with your dried flower is completely dry, stick a magnet to the back and you’re ready to enjoy your creation!
In just seven steps, you’ll have your dried flower magnet all finished and ready to use to hold those notecards and pictures and all the other special things. It’s easy enough to do it in a couple of hours (once your flowers are dry and you allow for drying time) but will continue to beautify your home for years to come!
