Why Your Five Organ Networks Matter

According to traditional Chinese physiology, there are five organ networks that maintain the circulation of chi (energy) in your physical body. They are referred to as ‘organ networks’ rather than ‘organs’ as the organ networks encompass physiological function and consciousness. Learn what they are, what happens when they are congested, and what you can do to clear them.

THE FIVE ORGAN NETWORKS OF THE BODY

HEART NETWORK

The heart network of your body is fed by the energy of your liver and feeds your spleen/pancreas. When your heart network is congested, the function of your physical heart, lungs, and thymus are affected on a physiological level and feelings of sadness, guilt, and grief may arise on an emotional level.

When your heart network is clear, physical function in these organs will be optimal and you will be able to experience feelings of love, joy, and peace.

SPLEEN/PANCREAS NETWORK

The spleen/pancreas network of your body is fed by the energy of the heart and feeds your small intestines. When your spleen/pancreas is congested, the function of your physical pancreas, spleen, and stomach are affected on a physiological level, and feelings of isolation, abandonment and lack may arise on an emotional level.

When your spleen/pancreas network is clear, the physical function of these organs will be optimal and you will be able to take in the sweetness in life and let it nourish your body and spirit. You will also feel empowered and have self-esteem.

SMALL INTESTINE NETWORK

The small intestine network is fed by the energy of the spleen/pancreas and feeds your kidneys. When your small intestine network is congested, the function of your physical small intestine and large intestines are affected on a physiological level, and feeling stuck, hopeless, and unable to let go of things may arise on an emotional level.

When your small intestine network is clear, the physical function of these organs will be optimal and you will be able to absorb nutrients from your food as well as eliminate wastes.

Emotionally, you’ll feel hopeful, able to go with the flow and let go of what no longer serves you.

KIDNEY NETWORK

The kidney network is fed by the energy of your small intestines and feeds your liver. When your kidney network is congested, the function of your physical kidneys, adrenal glands, and bladder are affected on a physiological level and feelings of fear, worry, and timidness may arise on an emotional level.

When your kidney network is clear, the physical function of these organs will be optimal and you will feel strong and able to deal with the stresses of life.

Emotionally, you will be able to trust others, move forward in life, and have the courage to deal with what life throws at you.

LIVER NETWORK

The liver network is fed by the energy of your kidneys and feeds your heart. When your liver network is congested, the function of your physical liver and the gallbladder is affected on a physiological level and feelings of anger, bitterness, and hatred may arise on an emotional level.

When your liver network is clear, the physical function of these organs will be optimal and you will be able to detoxify chemicals and eliminate them from your body.

Emotionally, you will feel calm, content, and able to experience stillness.

When your five organ networks are functioning optimally, the energy flows from your heart to your spleen/pancreas then, to your small intestines, kidneys, liver, and back to your heart. As the energy flows through your five organ networks of energy in this way, it nourishes and supports physiological function as well as expression of consciousness in these areas of your life.

On the other hand, if one of your organ networks is congested, it could cause depletion and collapse of the organ network that follows it and depletion and collapse of the organ network that precedes it. For example, if you have a congested liver, your kidney energy could be depleted causing you to be fearful and afraid to move forward in life. You could also experience anger due to your liver congestion. And, if that’s not enough, a congested liver could also restrain your heart energy which will affect your ability to lovingly connect with other people.
